Leading pub company and brewer, Greene King, has donated 500 used tablets to 2econd Chance, the not-for-profit computer recycling company, which refurbishes pre-used computers, laptops and tablets, and delivers training programmes for people who are not in employment, education or training.
The tablets donated by Greene King are being used as part of a programme to offer training to people with disabilities, teaching them digital skills for their own personal development and future employment.
Trainees learn how to refurbish the tablets which are then sold at an affordable price, helping to make digital devices accessible to those who are on a limited budget. All income raised from the sale of the tablets is then re-invested by 2econd Chance back into the programme so that it can extend its support and training to more people.
Alison Ramsay, Senior Social Impact Manager at Greene King said: “We’re delighted to have provided 2econd Chance with 500 tablets that have previously been used in our pubs. Not only is this initiative good for the environment, making sure that these devices are recycled and saved from landfill, it has the added advantage of giving people the opportunity to develop important life skills that will help them in the future, as well as providing affordable digital devices to those who need them.”
Charlotte Solomon, Head of Partnerships & Development at 2econd Chance said: “Thanks to Greene King’s donation, we’ve been able to provide 233 hours of training so far, with 40 trainees gaining valuable work experience. We see first-hand the confidence in our trainees grow when they have completed the refurbishment on the tablets. The money generated from the sales of the tablets has been instrumental in us being able to help support others and continue this work.”
This latest donation forms part of Greene King’s ongoing commitment to run its business in a sustainable way and it’s support for the communities it operates in across the UK.
