What is the one thing you'd like to tell visitors to the Guild's website?

Award-winning freelance journalist/author/speaker on beer, pubs, food and travel: op-ed on beer and pubs for the Daily Telegraph, Beer, the late lamented Original Gravity (also editor), Daily Star, the late lamented Imbibe, the late lamented Sunday Times Travel Magazine (there’s a bit of a theme going on here), Pellicle, Good Beer Hunting and various others. Beer Writer of the Year 2017. Written quite a few books, with The Seven Moods of Craft Beer a particular favourite, latest one in 2022 was United Kingdom of Beer; currently writing two more so more news when they are out. Edited 1001 Beers You Must Try Before You Die. Does talks and occasional  consultancy/press releases, but happiest on assignment in Europe and in front of laptop (or audience) and never claims to be anything but a journalist and writer. Former Secretary of the British Guild of Beer Writers from 2005-2016.

What you can offer as a writer/beer lover?

Experience as a journalist and editor plus 20 years immersed in covering beer, pubs and breweries — hanging out with brewers, observing and listening, travelling alone and asking questions and continually learning, as well as experience as the Guild’s Secretary from 2005-2016. Not a beer sommelier.

What do you like most about being a Guild of Beer Writers member?

Like minded conviviality, gossip and some rather nice people with whom I can get drunk with.
