Brewing up a sustainable future: St Austell Brewery partners with ScottishPower to install over 300 EV chargers across the South West

St Austell Brewery has announced a new partnership with ScottishPower to install over 300 new public electric vehicle chargers in pub carparks across the South West of England.

Currently the electrical infrastructure in the South West is sparse, with Cornwall Council estimating that there are only around 450 EV charging points in Cornwall*. ScottishPower and St Austell Brewery have teamed up to boost charging points by approximately 60%, installing Rapid and Ultra-Rapid units across the region.

St Austell Brewery is the south west’s leading brewing, hospitality and drinks wholesale business. As well as being famous for beers including Tribute, korev and Proper Job, the company has over 160 pubs in its estate and a leading wholesale business across the region. Committed to achieving net zero emissions across its operations by 2040, the company has already upgraded its company car fleet and installed EV chargers for employees driving hybrid or electric vehicles across all its head offices.

Paul Hine, Supply Chain Director, St Austell Brewery said: “We have a proud history of innovation so working with ScottishPower to install electric car chargers was a great way to prepare our pubs for an electric future. For us, going greener makes good business sense.

“We know that investing in this green tech will help us reduce our carbon footprint and thanks to ScottishPower we have been able to do this at scale. We’re proud to be providing charging points for our local communities and creating an ‘electric tourist trail’ for anybody visiting our sites and this beautiful part of the country. What better excuse to visit the pub for a well-deserved break and a spot of lunch?”

Andrew Mouat, Head of Smart Mobility at ScottishPower, said: “Since the beginning of our partnership, the team at St Austell Brewery always had clear goals of wanting to bring something special to their business and the local community in the South West.

“At ScottishPower, we want to help businesses integrate green tech into their operations to allow their customers to live a more sustainable lifestyle while creating a new revenue stream. We help business leaders find the best chargers for their carparks, manage and cover the cost of installation, and service the units for the term of the contract.”

About St Austell Brewery

Founded in 1851, what has come to be known as St Austell Brewery originally began life as Walter Hicks Wine & Spirits. It wasn’t until 12 years later, Walter began brewing his own beer, the first of which was created in the Seven Stars Inn. Since then, St Austell Brewery has gone on to brew some of the nation’s most beloved pints and run an impressive pub estate alongside it for guests to quench their thirst with one of their award winning beers.
