Rod Jones joined Meantime in early 2007 as a Production Brewer, gaining a thorough knowledge of all aspects of the brewing process. When Meantime’s microbrewery at The Old Brewery was opened, he transferred there as Brewer, a position he occupied until summer 2012. Rod brewed many of his own recipes and formulated many different beers at The Old Brewery, and also brewed pilot batches of beers that went on to become permanent features of Meantime’s range.
He combined this role with beer sommelier work, brewery tours and educational/ambassadorial roles, which he continues to the present day. Rod is an IBD accredited Beer Sommelier, and is British Institute of Innkeepers Beer Sommelier of the Year 2015/2016. Rod writes tasting notes and descriptors for Meantime’s beers, as well as web- and social media content, such as the Facebook Friday Factoids, and has written features for various magazines (eg. The Holborn magazine, Good British Food, Wired, TNT, Shortlist). Rod has contributed to TV programmes, and been interviewed by, for example, the One Show, Raising The Bar (Oz Clarke), the Hairy Bikers, Olympic TV and Azteca TV (Mexico). Rod wrote and developed Meantime’s staff training courses and course notes, and teaches these courses with Meantime’s own staff and their customers’ staff, both on their own premises and in the Meantime brewery.
