Emma is a freelance beer writer and broadcaster based in Brighton. Her interest in beer began in her late teens when she discovered real ale. She still enjoys well-kept cask ale but, like many others, over the past few years has become increasingly excited by the innovation of the contemporary beer scene.
Emma first tried home brewing as a student, though not always with success. She rediscovered it a few years ago and is now an active homebrewer with a comfortable brew shed at the bottom of her garden. In November 2015 Emma achieved her General Certificate in Brewing from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling. Since then, she has gained work experience, and has been involved in collaboration brews with a number of local breweries. Her interest in beer therefore lies not only in its tasting, but also in its creation. As a university academic from a social science background she also interested in how beer has shaped, and continues to shape, our development within societies and communities across the world.
Emma produces and presents Fermentation Radio Show, a monthly beer and brewing show covering all the very best aspects of the contemporary beer scene. The show can be heard via FM and DAB on Radio Reverb, and is also available as a podcast.
